Simple Steak, Sophisticated Beer

I’m not one to cook down.  I just don’t do it.

In fact if there is a glaring flaw in my cooking it’s that I usually try to go too big.

Not tonight.

Tonight I went simple so as to let the beer we were drinking to shine.  Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t cook some bland ass meal, I just didn’t go for big air and rather stayed familiar and true. A salt and pepper crusted ribeye alongside a bed of flame kissed, garlic touched summer squash, zucchini, and baby corn

A meal akin to a Toyota Camry, “Reliable, but uninspiring”

This is where this sentiment meets it’s end.

The Beer.

A few weeks ago one of the most amazing and sought after beer events that could be dreamt up by the holiest and most devout of beer nerds actually occurred. The “Wild Friendship Blend” day at Allagash Brewing in Portland, ME was a strictly ticketed event at the Allagash Brewery to celebrate the release of a beer collaborated on by 3 of the premiere breweries not only in the country, but in the WORLD!

Allagash.  Russian River.  Cantillon.

An uncontested triad of the world’s best in Sour, Wild, and Experimental beers.

Yet…………….

From all the friends and people I follow who were lucky enough to attend this event, almost none said the collab was the best beer available that weekend…nor was it any of the phenomenal lineup of specialty kegs to be tapped at the event.

No.

This.

Allagash Brewing – Mattina Rossa

Ale Brewed with Raspberries and Aged in Oak Barrels with Raspberries.

This beer was the star of the show at one of the most amazing and anticipated beer events in history.

Luckily I know low people in high places so one was held for me. #takecareofyourbeerguy

Someone said to me, “It’s not so much that this beer was brewed with raspberries, or even aged with raspberries……..this beer IS raspberries!”

I couldn’t agree more.  This beer is juicy and dry, sweet and tart, hazy yet crisp, and wonderuflly balanced on all aforementioned lines!

Allagash is quickly distancing itself from the middle of the road breweries its wonderful, yet wonderfully plentful “White,” had lumped it in with.

Allagash is a world class brewery that will only continue to be recognized as such.

Blend Friends….stay on your toes. Allagash is coming for your reputations!

As always,

Eat Well, Drink Well, Live Well.
